Darcy's Story

Darcy's Story was my light reading yesterday and today. Written from the point of view of Mr. Fitzwilliam Darcy, this novel purports to tell the story of Pride and Prejudice from his perspective. When I bought this, I thought it would be a bit more detailed in recounting the events leading to the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Bennet to Mr. Darcy. Instead, the author relies heavily on the text of Pride and Prejudice, especially the conversations between Darcy and Elizabeth. I will say in the author's favor that she took no liberties with the characters, nor did she manipulate events or read more into them than was written by Austen. And the characters remain true to their mold, as established by Jane Austen.

It was a light, pleasant read, but I'll probably never reread it. For rereading, I'll go back to Austen's books.

Mmmm, I just read P&P last week for the first time. What a delight! No wonder Ms. Austen has such a loyal and enthusiastic following. :-)

Thank you for the book review. The premise is excellent, isn't it?
