Sock knitting
Mom asked for some socks with orange, brown, and blue in them to wear in the autumn and winter. (She asked me how much sock yarn costs because she was going to go buy some for me to use for her socks! I told her not to bother. I have waaaaaaaaay too much sock yarn and am always happy to knit socks for knit-worthy individuals. Mom has proven herself knit-worthy by wearing the socks and sweaters I've knit her. Besides, if I use up some of the sock yarn I have, then I'll have room for new sock yarn!)
Before she asked I had already started socks for her with orange, brown and blue in them using OnLine yarn. Looking through my bin of sock yarn, I found three more yarns she liked: Done Roving yarn in the "Quoddy Bay" colorway (it's single-ply, and needs to be wound into a pull-skein); Austermann Step yarn; and Cherry Tree Hill yarn in the "Fall Foliage" colorway.

It's so convenient to have a yarn mini-mart at home don't you think? :)
Yummy colors....
I dont wear socks very much, except at in the winter or at night :)
What gorgeous colors!
Non-knitters can never understand the $$ we spend on sock yarn.
Perhaps it is the three-fold joy!
The joy of buying it...the joy of knitting with it....and then the joy of giving it away or wearing it.
I like the mini-mart concept, Tammy.
Dana, it's true that our warmer climate isn't as conducive to wearing socks - but the socks last longer!
You are so right about 3-fold joy with sock yarn, Donna. And unlike yarn for larger garments, one or two skeins will suffice, so I feel almost virtuous when I buy *only* one or two skeins of sock yarn as opposed to 10 or 12 skeins of yarn for a sweater!
Love those colors...looks like you have been stocking (tee hee) up. Love you. meg
Did she like the ones you started or will you use a different yarn?
Tracy, she does like the ones I started - and I will knit her several more pairs using the yarn I pulled out for her approval. She says the socks I knit her wear better and longer than any socks she has bought. (Way to go, Mom!)
