Book purge

It's time for my annual summer book purge. In a few weeks I'll start planning the school year for David, Marley, and Sam. Before I plan, I go through our personal library, see what I'd like to use for the year, and cull any books that we're not likely to use again.

With only three children left at home to teach, and those getting older by the minute, I'm going to try to get rid of more books than I usually do. This year I hope to weed out two thousand books. At least. Yesterday in just over an hour I pulled 15 boxes averaging 16 books per box.

All the books will be donated to a used-book store, and Tom will deliver them for me and bring the boxes back so I can refill them. I think I may reach my goal in just a few days and I'm hopeful that the books will be read and used by someone else.

The Gnu's Room - but if you want to look through what I'm getting rid of, you're welcome to them first! I'll be going through children's picture books soon... .

Thanks! I'm mainly interested in "good" (as in good children's lit.) read aloud books. Yes, picture books too, but chapter books is what our home library lacking.

Wow! That's a lot of books. If I lived closer I buy some from you. That pied piper of hamlin and the golden book of natural science would have a nice home here. It looks like you have a great selection. Have you ever heard of the Robinson Curriculum? I purchased it a couple of months ago. It has hundreds of old books and an entire curriculum K-12 on CD's. So far it has been great. We will start using it in the fall. Have fun purging.

Halima, email me [lld61(at)hotmail(dot)com] your address and I'll mail those books to you, free. I'd love to know that they're being used by a homeschool family.

oh my gosh - 2000? Amazing. I think I just dribble away books to the library book sale as I realize we don't need them. I'm sure such a big purge feels fantastic!

I like people like you.
The last couple years I have avoided used book stores, but I manage to over stock at library book sales.
