Advice, please!

I'm going on a trip soon. I will have to fly to my destination. I will have to pack more than a carry-on. So here's my dilemma: do I take three (or more) paperback books that I think I will enjoy reading, because they are fairly light in weight?

Or do I take three (or more) hardcover books that I am certain I will enjoy, because I have enjoyed the other books these authors have written? Although I don't anticipate having loads of time for reading, it's likely that I could have at least an hour a day for reading. And I will definitely have my Bible with me.

What should I do? What would you do?

You're checking luggage? I was afraid of that. I don't think I can get everything in carry-on. Having said that, take them all. That's my advice.

Loving to handle books, I am dismayed to admit ~ a Kindle is in order ;-)

Ordinarily I like to have choices and would be tempted to take several books. But with luggage weight being an issue, I'd definitely lean towards paperbacks.

My only carry-on will be a large purse that can hold my knitting and a book or two, plus i.d., etc. I can't pack 5 days worth of clothing and toiletries into a carry-on!

I have even been wondering if I should use the old American Tourister suitcase (that closes up tight, thus not allowing any sneaky vermin in) but has to be carried by the handle, or the modern luggage with pop-up handle and wheels, but with a zipper that has minute openings at top and bottom of zipper - large enough to serve as an entrance for vermin.

What say you?

Dana, I'd be the person who would drop her Kindle, smashing it out of order, then have nothing to read and go mad.

So that's one vote for all the books, and one for paperbacks.

Laura, there are protective covers for the Kindles, similar to what folks use for cell phones.... rubbery plastic which softens the blow.

I vote for the suitcase with wheels and pull-out handle! Despite my regular workouts at Curves my shoulders are easily strained.

Take two of each.

Is knitting allowed on an airplane? Seriously, the needles might be considered weapons! What has the world come to?!

Suitcase with wheels.

Knitting is allowed on domestic flights. But I'm only taking socks to knit anyway, so the needles are only 6 inches long!

Another vote for a Kindle here! You get a case for it and I don't think dropping it will even matter.

In the meanwhile, I vote for one hardcover and 2 paperbacks. :)

You've got to take the Dick Francis book - I know you like his works and I LOVE his works (not as much as when he and his wife wrote together - but still...)

I always like to take 1 or 2 hardbacks, a magazine and a softcover (it's nice to have variety) and a blank notebook to write down ideas/thoughts. Hey you could write downs future topics for your blog! :)
The kindle would solve having to lug around the books, but then there is the chance of it dropping....
I guess I am between the two: one vote for each?

And if you were fast enough with the Dick Francis I could read it before I went home!

I'd like to read that Theopholis book! Let me know if you recommend/enjoyed it!

I'd take the most cherished of the hardbacks and all the paperbacks. That way you are ensured some quality reading and if the paperbacks turn out to be duds, at least they weren't heavy and you can even ditch them before you fly back.

Um, I would keep vermin out at any cost. There's apparently A LOT of vermin out there right now.

I am not a fan of Kindles. I adore paper too much.
