Trip Around the World Blanket - all done!

The Trip Around the World blanket for Tom is finally done. I crocheted a border on it and wove in all the ends, took pictures of it on Joan's double bed, and am ready to give it to Tom. He has a queen-size bed, but I think the blanket will cover it, too.

Black blocks are boring...

...but oh, so necessary as a neutral! We're ready to arrange the blocks for Tom's blanket. That's fun! Then I have to seam them all together. That's not so much fun. But I think it will be exciting to see it come together!

The last squares

All the purple, blue, and green squares for Tom's Trip Around the World blanket are finished. Now I have to knit the black squares. I've been dreading this part. Maybe I'll knit these very quickly, because they aren't colorful...

One can always hope.

It will be nice to finish this project and move to a different one.

Green squares - nearly done

The green squares for Tom's blanket are almost all finished. I have five more to make, then I'll be knitting black squares. As you can see, my greens run the gamut from yellow-green to blue-green, with a few green-green in between.



And I have a lot of mixed green because I had a lot of green Noro Kureyon leftover bits.

All the purple squares and blue squares for Tom's blanket are finished. Now I'm working on green squares.

Although the squares are just plain garter stitch, I'm enjoying knitting them. I bought some new yarn for this blanket - NatureSpun and some handspun yarn from a vendor at the Fall Fiber Festival - but I'm also using up leftover Noro Kureyon yarn from Jacy's Lizard Ridge Afghan , leftover KnitPicks Wool of the Andes yarn from Sarah's Moderne Log Cabin Blanket, and leftover Plymouth Galway yarn from Joan's Mitered Squares Blanket.

Trip Around the World Blanket

Here are 36 knitted squares. All are 8X8 and knit on the diagonal. I have to knit 4 more blue squares, then I will begin knitting green squares, and after that, black and gray squares. I have to have 81 squares , so I'm not quite to the half-way point.

When I have finished knitting all the squares, I will seam them together to look something like this beautiful crocheted blanket. Then I'll have to knit or crochet some kind of border - probably in black - then Tom will have his warm woolen blanket.

August is good for wool, too

Taking a break from writing out lesson plans to knit - and wool is so much easier on my hands and wrists than cotton. I'm starting the squares for Tom's blanket. They want squares of purples, greens, and blues with black and gray to tone it down. The squares are 8x8 inches, knit on size 7 needles. They'll be arranged in a pattern similar to this: Trip Around the World quilt.
