Sarah's washcloths

Sarah's washcloths are finished and ready to mail to her. I used mercerized cotton and I wonder how well they will hold up?

I can't believe the summer is nearly over. All the lesson plans for the upcoming year are done. We'll start school the day after Labor Day and I think the children are ready to get back to academics.

This weekend we'll all celebrate my parents' 50th wedding anniversary. The entire extended family - Mom and Dad, Chuck and his family, my family and I - will all spend four days together at the beach. Four generations celebrating five decades of marital perseverance!

She's settled in

Last weekend we moved Sarah into her room. Yesterday Jacy, Joan and I went to see Sarah and took her a few things she realized she'd left at home. We had breakfast with her and walked her to her first class. It was good to see her again, but we know she'll be very busy from now on.

August is good for wool, too

Taking a break from writing out lesson plans to knit - and wool is so much easier on my hands and wrists than cotton. I'm starting the squares for Tom's blanket. They want squares of purples, greens, and blues with black and gray to tone it down. The squares are 8x8 inches, knit on size 7 needles. They'll be arranged in a pattern similar to this: Trip Around the World quilt.

August knitting

It's very hot and humid now - just the right weather for knitting with cotton.

Sarah starts school soon, and I knit a few dishcloths for her and her roommate to use:

I also bought a few skeins of mercerized cotton to knit washcloths for her. I've never used mercerized cotton for anything other than garments before, and I'm interested to see how this turns out.

They will not be finished before she leaves, so I'm thinking they'll go into the first "care package" we send her.

Mitered Squares Blanket - for the last time

Joan took pictures of her new Mitered Squares Blanket in her room. Her photo shows more of the blanket than mine did.

It's a done-deal... the Mitered Squares Blanket

It's a lot bigger than it looks in the picture. But it is done, and Joan has taken possession of it. Meanwhile, I have to finish a few washcloths for Sarah to take with her to school, finish a pair of socks for Mom, cast on for Joan's Ribby Cardi, and begin work on the next blanket.

The Babette Blanket for Marley has been put on hold for now. I overheard David telling someone about what he had in mind for *his* blanket. I told him I was only making blankets for the girls, and he said that wasn't fair, and that blankets for each child are now a family tradition!

David chose a pattern, but first I had Tom choose a pattern. Tom's still in college, so I guess this technically counts as his "college blanket" as it has for Jacy, Sarah, and Joan.

I kind of like knitting blankets, so I'm not disappointed to find that I'm expected to knit (or crochet) a few more.
