When you get two knitters together...

...they knit.  Penny and I knit while we waited at the hospital for Liam to be born.
She worked on a silk shawl, and I worked on a cotton dishcloth.  And before too much time had passed, we had the best little knit-together-by-God-in-his-mother's-womb grandson!

Irish Diamond Lace Shawl - finished

Mom's purple shawl is finished and ready to deliver to her. It was fun to knit, didn't use up nearly the amount of yarn I bought to make it, and feels warm but light when worn. (Project details here.)

Now on to the next project!

Irish Diamond Lace Shawl

Mom's Irish Diamond Lace Shawl (pattern from Cheryl Oberle's book, Folk Shawls) is coming along well. I like the pattern and it's not too tricky, although each row takes a while to knit - and the rows are only going to grow longer still. My goal is to have it finished by the time cooler temperatures arrive.

(Jack just wants me to set it down anywhere because he likes to sleep on wool. This exasperated look from him was because I would not allow him to settle down on the shawl for his afternoon nap.)

A knitting project for the not-so-distant future

This year I'll be knitting a large shawl for my mother. Thanks to Harrisville Designs it won't be very expensive, either. Mom wanted a shawl to wear to her Red Hat Ladies meetings. She chose the color and the pattern.

First I ordered the Resource Guide so Mom could see the true color of the yarn and be certain it was what she wanted. It was worth every penny and I encouraged her to take her time deciding and to look at the yarn with indoor and natural outdoor light, too. She settled on Blackberry and the Fir Cone Square Shawl from Cheryl Oberle's book, Folk Shawls.

I don't know when I'll start it, as I don't want it to be a stop and start project, but I think it will be fun!
